Who needs Virginia alcohol seller/server training, and is it required by law?
Virginia ABC recommends seller/server training for bartenders, restaurant servers, retail alcohol sellers and managers, but it is not a general statewide requirement. Check your employer's training policy and any conditions on your workplace's ABC license. Training does not replace Virginia's alcohol-sale rules, including restrictions on sales to minors and intoxicated customers.

Is this a Virginia bartender license?
This is seller/server training. STAP certifies training programs; it does not make this course an occupational license. Confirm your employer's specific requirements.
Does it cover retail sellers as well as restaurant servers?
Yes. The course covers both restaurant and bar service and take-home retail alcohol sales.
How long will the course take?
Virginia STAP requires at least 60 minutes of training. You can save your progress and complete the lessons over multiple sessions.
Will there be a final test?
Yes. Virginia STAP requires at least 20 questions and an 80% passing score. If you do not pass, you must repeat the full training before trying again.
Does the training include human trafficking awareness?
Yes. The course includes human trafficking awareness. Virginia law requires board-certified training programs to include a DCJS-developed or approved course on recognizing and reporting suspected human trafficking.
Will it be available in Spanish?
This course is in English. A Spanish version is not available yet.
