Who needs Washington MAST training, and what does state law require?
Washington requires a MAST permit for people who serve, mix, sell or supervise alcohol sales for on-premises consumption. The requirement also covers workers conducting alcohol tastings at off-premises businesses or filling growlers at grocery stores.
What is the difference between Class 12 and Class 13?
Class 12 requires age 21 or older and covers duties such as bartending and supervising alcohol service. Class 13 permits narrower serving duties and is available from age 18.
How soon after starting work do I need my permit?
Covered on-premises employees generally have 60 calendar days from hire. People conducting alcohol tastings need their permit before conducting tastings.
How long does Washington MAST training take?
Washington requires at least three hours of training, plus the final exam. You can save your progress and finish over multiple sessions.
Can Washington MAST be taken online?
Yes. Washington accepts approved online MAST training. Enrollment in CertReady's online course is coming soon.
Will I receive an instant printable MAST permit?
No. Your MAST permit is mailed after you complete training and pass the exam. A course completion document does not replace the permit.
How long does the permit last, and how do I renew it?
Class 12 and Class 13 permits last five years. To obtain a subsequent permit, take the required training and pass the standardized exam again.
How much will Washington MAST training cost, and what is included?
